New Interclub Champions 2012 - SLTKD

Central TKD held their Interclub Championships on Saturday 11th Feb at The Stratford on Avon Leisure Centre which ended with a surprise result !
Although this event was very early on in the year, a good turnout from nearly all schools produced some very close and hard fought battles.
The large children’s divisions got things started and some great patterns were witnessed, with all schools winning medals in this area.

Next was the sparring and again, some great bouts, many going to extensions were witnessed by the audience. The atmosphere was electric and huge applause were given to all competitors.

The adult divisions, although smaller, were equally hard fought with many people commenting that this was a great event to lead up to the T-UK National Team Champs on March 11th.

A demonstration by the Instructors at lunchtime led into the final phase of the competition and after all had finished, Mr Scriven read out the results;

Balsall / Coventry 23 pts
Solihull                  7 pts
Kineton                13 pts
North Leam         16 pts
Stratford              102 pts

And the winners, for the first time, South Leamington with 106pts !!!!
A huge congratulations to Mr McAteer III & all of the students & parents from South Leamington TKD who supported the event so well.
Stratford TKD have never lost the shield since this event started many years ago so this year was very special.
Well done to all who attended , competed, supported & officiated at this very successful event.
Now South Leamington have shown all of the other schools the way, we are sure all are keen to have their turn as Central Interclub Champions !

Central Area Squad Training

The Central Area is about to start up it own 'squad training' for the purpose of National and International Events and for anyone who just wants to improve their sparring and fitness.

The area will work alongside Mr Miley's Northwest Squad Training and then join together to find our finest competitors.

Central squad training sessions - Improve your sparring, open to all abilities

To be run by Mr Martin Noddings IV degree and Mr Ricky Dhillon III degree
Date - 19th Feb then every third Sunday of the month
Venue - Warwick Junior School gym, Myton Road, Warwick, CV34 6PP
Time - 10 - 11.30am
Eligibly - all T-UK students, all belt colours
Age - 13 years and upwards (exceptional younger students can apply to attend through their instructor)
White T-UK doboks and belts to be worn
Bring safety equipment including box and gum shield
If you have a kick shield, focus mitts please bring them.
Bring a drink to keep hydrated
These sessions will be fun vibrant sessions concentrating on sparring skills, fight strategy and fitness conditioning.

Central Block Grading 11th December 2011

On Sunday 11 December 2011 there was a very successful grading held at Stratford High School.

Examiner and President of the T-UK, Mr John Archer VI commented that the day was well attended and that he was particularly impressed with South Leamington TKD standards.

SLTKD Instructor Mr McAteer was present on the day and at hand to help ease nerves and provide valuable last minute pointers.

The grading went by without a hitch and students from South Leamington TKD demonstrated good techniques and good terminology.

There were a record number of “A PASS” grades awarded on the day for South Leamington TKD.

These high standards are testament to what can be achieved through dedication and commitment and trying to attend 100% of your training sessions.

Hosin Sul - England

Taekwon-do UK have just held their 2nd Instructor Hosinsul course, this time in Stratford on Avon in England on June 5th 2011 .
A great turn out again, as all instructors seem really keen to introduce this into their classes and training syllabus.

The course was conducted by Mr Archer and assisted by Mr Condie, who have both done a considerable amount of work with Tactical Edge Founder Mr Mark Davies to adopt his self defence system .
The feedback was excellent after the course with the 50 or so participants of which 6 were from SLTKD taking away their manuals to polish technique before introducing into their schools .

The T-UK would like to thank all instructors for their attendance and enthusiasm and huge thanks go to Mr Mark Davies , who will hopefully be conducting some more seminars for T-UK later on in the year .
The next Insructor Hosinsul Course should be in Manchester soon and is again, free of charge for all Instructors.

T-UK 1st Scottish Championship 21st May 2011

Saturday the 21st of May 2011 was another landmark in the Taekwon-Do-UK’s bright new history, not only was it our first competition with just short of 500 entries, but a statement of intent for what looks to be a modern era in Taekwon-do throughout the UK.

Mr Archer then thanked all who had travelled from over the UK and then gave an empowering speech about the future of TKD in Great Britain, friendship, Modern Taekwon-Do, standards and then announced that Taekwon-Do UK had definitely arrived with a bang and made everyone feel relaxed, welcome and looking forward to our day and future.

The competition started promptly with all junior and peewee grades on the rings instantly kicking off the patterns divisions.s. The quality and numbers in each division was at a new highest level with some of the junior divisions having 76 competitors in the one category! The patterns divisions were then followed by the sparring divisions which were hard fought, however the St Andrews first Aid, who were covering the event did not have any cases of injury in the childrens divisions, a true mark of a “Goodwill Event”, this environment permits children to develop without the fear of being harmed during combat.

Saturday June 4th at The Scotia TKD Academy, Scotland and
Sunday June 5th at The Stratford on Avon High School Alcester Road, Stratford (sports hall)

These courses contain the new, full, T-UK Hosin Sul syllabus from beginner to Black Belt and are a must for all Black Belts and Instructors. Accompanying manuals will be given out to all attendee’s.

These courses are FREE ! for all Instructors.

The Central TKD Schools are supplying a coach trip

The Central TKD Schools are supplying a coach trip up to the Scottish Championships on 21st May, FREE OF CHARGE !
We are hoping to be leaving on the afternoon of Friday 20th May from 4.00pm - 4.30pm and returning from Falkirk on the evening of Saturday 21st May at around 6.00pm .

Various different fund raising activities will be going on in our local Schools in the run up to this very prestigious and expertly run event.
Many 'Special Guests' will be present and the medals and awards are of the highest quality.
Please support as best you can and enjoy this fine Taekwon-do spectacle.

Why we do Jumping & Flying Kicks in Taekwon-Do

Jumping and Flying kicks were traditionally used in battle to dismount attacking horsemen. In modern day Taekwon-Do, a jumping kick or flying can be used to evade an incoming strike and retaliate simultaneously. Alternatively, it can be used to quickly gains distance and strike an opponent who was previously out of range. The drawback is that leaping in the air makes the kicker unstable and easy to topple. This is why you are unlikely to see jumping kicks used in full contact ring bouts.

We are putting a big emphasis on Jumping & Flying kick this year it’s not every students favorite as it does not come easy to us all but it’s a crucial part of Taekwon-Do you can not get away from that!!

Monthly Training fees are collected in the first week of each calendar month as follows:

£30.00 for a single student training

£55.00 - two students training from the same family.

Monthly fees apply equally over 12 months can be paid by standing order.

Annual Membership/Insurance - £40.00

Annual membership is payable on a yearly basis, on joining you receive your free GTUK training suit.

This includes association membership, license and insurance and is a requirement of the British Taekwon-do Council and Sports Council.

Tactical Edge Seminar (2) - North Leamington School 7/11/10

Mr Mark Davies returned again to Leamington Spa this time from Abroath (Scotland) to conduct two four hour seminars on Tactical Edge Self Defence.

The courses, were attended by approximately 40 willing and eager students. Some members had already been on the first seminar but others really didnt know what to expect as the wording of the course was somewhat ambiguous yet intriguing.On the day the students entered with 'trepidation' and a fear of the unknown. But once the courses got underway a fabulous time was had by all.

The four hour course was split into two parts - the first 3 hours were focussed on unarmed close quarter combat and the last hour devoted to defences against knife attacks. The atmosphere was relaxed and despite the seriousness of the topics covered it was clear to see that all of the participants were thoroughly enjoying themselves. It was obvious from the smiles around the room that the students were delighted to have an opportunity to ‘get stuck in’ and try some of the new techniques on some of their colleagues.

Well done to all who attended from SLTKD – I am sure that you will agree that this seminar was great fun and I expect there will be a big demand the next time Mr Davies comes to town. On Sunday 26 September 2010 there was a very successful grading held at Stratford upon Avon Leisure Centre. Examiner and President of the GTUK, Mr John Archer VI commented that the day was well attended and that he was particularly impressed with South Leamington TKD Club’s standards.

South Leamington Spa TKD Taekwondo Instructor Mr McAteer 3 was present on the day to help officiate the proceedings and at hand to help ease nerves and provide valuable last minute pointers.

On the day the of the grading you could feel the excitement in the air – students could be seen hurriedly testing each other on their Korean for one last time and stretching their limbs ready for the all important and much anticipated examiners call signalling that proceedings were about to begin.

The grading went by without a hitch and students from South Leamington TKD Club demonstrated good techniques and good terminology. These high standards are testament to what can be achieved through dedication and commitment to attending and giving 100% in training sessions. The highest grades of the day went to A Brzeski & S Nazareswicz who achieved the highly regarded and sought after A pass standard.
